SARASOTA, Fla. - A detective with the Venice Police Department was arrested this weekend after reportedly testing at twice the legal limit for alcohol.
29-year-old Gaetano Castiglione later resigned his position with Venice Police.
According to a Sarasota County Sheriff's affidavit, Castiglione was observed speeding past a parked deputy on Clark Road around midnight Friday night. The deputy began pursuit and observed the driver running a red light as he entered the on-ramp to I-75.
The deputy managed to pull Castiglione over along the interstate and observed slurred speech and a heavy odor of alcohol from the driver, who admitted he had two beers at a bar.
After failing a field sobriety test, Castigliono was taken to the north jail, where he reportedly blew a .164 and a .157 on a breathalyzer.
He was arrested and charged with DUI greater that .15 and held on $500 bond.
