VENICE, Fla. -- An undercover investigation by the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office has led to arrests for the sale of marijuana and butane hash oil, known on the street as "wax".
Investigators say that from January to May, 20-year-old Mathew Voldahl of Venice sold Special Investigations Section detectives cannabis and BHO on several occasions. Detectives executed a search warrant at his home Wednesday and found drug paraphernalia, a Hi-Point 40 caliber rifle with a laser attached, a pound of marijuana and more than 300 grams of BHO. Detectives also recovered equipment used to manufacture BHO, some of which is highly flammable.
According to the sheriff's office, BHO is a waxy concentrated cannabis extract made by pushing liquid butane through a tube packed with marijuana buds. Internet research refers to BHO as one of the most potent forms of cannabis because it is packed with incredibly high levels of THC the chemical compound in marijuana that has the greatest effect on the brain.
Voldahl is charged with five counts of Sale of a Controlled Substance (Cannabis), one count each of Unlawful Use of a Two-Way Communication Device, Possession of Cannabis with Intent to Sell within 1,000 feet of a Convenience Store, Possession with Intent to Manufacture BHO within 1,000 feet of a Convenience Store, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Possession of a Firearm during a Felony.
Two other people were also arrested in connection with this case. 18-year-old Nicholas D'Angeleo of North Port is charged with Possession of Cannabis with Intent to Sell within 1,000 feet of a Convenience Store. 20-year-old Kassondra Moon, who lives with Voldahl, is charged with Possession of Cannabis.
