SARASOTA, FL. – A Venice man is dead and an 11-year-old child is injured after a motorcycle crash in Sarasota.

It happened Tuesday around 2:20 p.m. on Clark Road and I-75.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 82-year-old Kenneth Widmaier of Sarasota was traveling west on Clark in the left turn lane. 27-year-old Richard Schoeneck of Venice was traveling east on Clark approaching I-75 on a motorcycle. Both vehicles had a green traffic signal.

Widmaier was stopped in the middle of the intersection waiting for oncoming traffic to pass. He began to make the left turn and entered into Schoeneck’s lane of travel.

Schoeneck’s motorcycle struck the side of Widmaier’s vehicle, causing him to fall to the pavement. His passenger, 11-year-old Aniston Jasch, was thrown from the motorcycle.

Schoeneck was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital where he died from his injuries. Jasch was taken to All Children’s Hospital where she is listed in serious condition. They were both wearing helmets. Widmaier and his passenger sustained minor injuries.
