Venice bank robber sought after jumping counter, taking cash

VENICE, Fla. -- The Venice Police Department is investigating an armed bank robbery that took place Wednesday afternoon in which the suspect jumped behind the counter to take cash.

It happened around 4pm at the Capital Bank on E. Venice Avenue at Auburn Road.

According to Venice Police, a white man wearing a jacket, sunglasses, ball cap, long-sleeve grey jacket, blue jeans and dark sneakers entered the bank, pointed a firearm at the teller as he jumped the counter, then grabbed an undisclosed amount of cash from the teller’s cash drawer.

The suspect fled on foot, heading westbound on East Venice Avenue.

The FBI was notified and an investigation is ongoing. Anyone having information about the incident or the suspect should contact the Venice Police Department detective division at (941) 486-2444.
