SARASOTA - Authorities say the driver of a van fled the scene after crashing into the rear of a Sarasota County school bus Monday.  There were no injuries on the bus.

It happened at 4:10pm on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Way just west of U.S. 301.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the bus was westbound on MLK Way and stopped at the railroad tracks.  That's when a Chrysler van, described only as gold or tan colored, failed to stop in time and hit the back of the bus.

The driver then backed up, and then left the scene headed northbound on Leonard Reid Avenue.

None of the 24 passengers on the bus were injured.  The bus had minor damage to the rear bumper.

It happened around 3:15 when school got out, it just took FHP nearly an hour to get out there. My child sat on that bus for nearly TWO hours, finally got home just after 5pm. Now THAT is crazy. FHP should not have taken so long to respond!
