VENICE - A single vehicle accident involving a van servicing disabled people shut down traffic for more than an hour Sunday morning on I-75 just north of Jacaranda Boulevard, killing two.
According to FHP, Eight people were in the van as it traveled northbound on I-75. As it neared mile marker 194 just past the Jacaranda Boulevard exit, a rear tire blew, causing the vehicle to roll over onto the highway shoulder.
The van is registered to a group called Larc, Inc., based in Ft. Myers. The organization's websites says it works to provide opportunities to people with disabilities.
The names of the two deceased passengers have not been made public.
One other un-named passenger was flown to Blake medical center in critical condition.
All five other people in the van, including the driver, 28-year-old Johniece Diaz of Cape Coral, suffered serious injuries.
It's not know whether any of the passengers were disabled.
