BRADENTON, Fla. - Rescue crews responded to a crash on Cortez Road in Bradenton Monday where a school bus crashed into the rear of another, injuring 15 students from Moody Elementary School.

It happened a little after 3:30pm on Cortez Road near the intersection with 40th Street West in Bradenton.

"We were talking and out of nowhere, we felt a big bump. We were so worried. We then saw the crash, and said oh my gosh," said 4th grader, Alen Martinez.

The 15 students were transported by ambulance to Blake Medical Center and Manatee Memorial Hospital for what troopers call, minor injuries. Between both buses, there were 74 students on board.

"Although the buses were moving slowly, the impact was quick and sudden. It did throw a few of the students out of their seats," said Trooper Kenn Watson with Florida Highway Patrol.

Parents were notified about the accident through an automated message on the phone. Most of them gathered around the crash site, waiting for their children to exit the buses.

"Once we got here and saw he was on the bus and he was waving at us, it was a great relief," said John Knies, a parent.

"I am very fortunate, and very blessed he is okay. We are going to ho home safe," said parent, Carolyn Kirkman.

Troopers announced that the driver of the bus who slammed into the other bus, Alfred Gibson, will be cited for Careless Driving.

At last check, 13 of the 15 students that went to the hospital have been released.
