Update: Police have identified the woman who jumped to her death off a condo balcony on Thursday as Aileen C. Lowndes, 60.
The death has been classified as a suicide. According to the police report, Lowndes' head struck a large metal pipe on were way down, causing a severe puncture wound.
No further information is known at this time.
SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) -- A Venice woman jumped to her death off of a condo community balcony eight floors high on Thursday morning.
Venice Police and Fire Rescue were called to the scene at Waterfront Towers, 147 E. Tampa Ave., at 8:11 a.m. Thursday.
A witness saw a female climb out onto an upper-floor community balcony of the condo complex, believed to be the eighth floor, and jumped, according to Police Lt. Eric Hill. The woman was deceased at the scene.
Venice Police are working to identify the victim and notify the next of kin. No foul play is suspected. The incident is still an active investigation, according to Hill.
