UPDATE: 1 driver dies, 3 seriously injured after head-on crash in Sarasota

UPDATE: Tabitha Nicole Peters, 36, of Venice, was pronounced deceased on Aug. 13.


SARASOTA, FL (WWSB) - Three people suffered critical injuries and one person suffered serious injuries after a head-on collision in Sarasota Thursday afternoon. 

Tabitha Nicole Peters, 36, of Venice, was driving a vehicle travelling southbound on McIntosh Road heading toward the intersection with Sarasota Square Blvd. 

She was travelling with two passengers, Rex Wrey Peters, 39, of Venice, and Taylor M. Peters, 14. 

A second vehicle driven by James Allen Lawton, 52, of Englewood, was travelling northbound on McIntosh Road approaching the intersection with Sarasota Square Blvd.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Peters' vehicle traveled into the northbound lane causing the two vehicles to collide head-on. 

Tabitha and Rex Peters both suffered critical injuries. Taylor Peters suffered serious injuries. The driver of the second vehicle suffered critical injuries. Their conditions are unknown at this time. The adults were taken to Sarasota Memorial and Taylor Peters was taken to All Children's Hospital. 

The crash remains under investigation.
