Two teens attempt to rob man behind Palmetto Wal-Mart Friday

PALMETTO, FL (WWSB) - An attempted robbery occurred behind a Palmetto Wal-Mart late Friday night. 

The incident happened Friday around 10:38 p.m. at 508 10th Street E in Palmetto. 

The victim, Velazquez Rodriguez, 53, was cutting behind the Wal-Mart across train tracks to get home when he was confronted by two men.

One of the suspects approached and pointed a grey semi-automatic handgun at the victim's forehead and asked "what he had".  The victim told them he didn't have anything.

According to the police report, the suspect then reached into the victim's pocket, trying to find something. The victim said that his brother was right behind him.

The suspect removed his hand from the victim's pocket and both suspects fled west under the overpass without getting anything from the victim.

The victim walked home with his cell phone and money still in his pocket to Sylvan Oaks where he eventually told his wife about the incident and she called police. 

The first suspect is described as a skinny black male, about 5'06" and 17 years old. He had short hair and was wearing a white sweatshirt and black shorts. He was armed with a small grey semi-automatic handgun. 

The second suspect is described as a "scrawny" black male, about 5'03" and 17 years old. He was wearing a tan shirt and colored shorts.
