SARASOTA, Fla. -- Concerns are growing over plans to add eleven traffic roundabouts in Sarasota over the next few years.
The Florida Department of Transportation gave city leaders an update on the project Monday. The first two roundabouts will be installed at U.S. 41 and 10th Street, and at U.S. 41 and 14th Street.
Construction should be finished by the end of 2017, but some are worried the work will cause problems for the planned international rowing event that year.
“There will be a huge influx of visitors that will be using the corridor to get to the beaches,” said David Morriss of North Trail Revitalization.
“I know the state is doing all it can to streamline the project schedule, but right-of-way acquisition can take some time,” said Sarasota city engineer Alex Davis Shaw.
You can check out the roundabout plans at a meeting on July 8th. It will be held from 5pm-7pm at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall.
