Two men arrested for armed robbery during drug deal

SARASOTA - Two men, one of which is a juvenile, have been arrested and charged with committing armed robbery in a drug deal gone bad after a brief police chase.

According to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office, early Saturday morning a man reported that he and a friend were robbed at gunpoint in a Teal Avenue home by two men who were supposed to sell them 50 Dilaudid pills for $1,020.

Deputies spotted a vehicle matching the description of the suspects’ car at Cattlemen Road and Center Pointe Drive and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The vehicle initially took off but was stopped using a PIT maneuver less than a quarter-mile away.

The suspects were arrested and deputies recovered a stolen Taurus 9mm handgun and $900 cash.

A 17-year-old male was charged with two counts each of Robbery with a Firearm and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. He has a lengthy criminal history and is currently being held by the Department of Juvenile Justice.

22-year-old Robert Rutledge of Sarasota was charged with two counts of Robbery with a Firearm, Fleeing to Elude and Driving with a Revoked License.
