MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. -- Two children have been placed in protective custody after investigators say their father and his friend had the kids help them steal materials from a construction site.

29-year-old Trevor Bjurstrom has been charged with child Neglect and Burglary to a Construction Site.  42-year-old Nicole Asman was also arrested.

According to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office, the two adults, along with Bjurstrom's 6 and 8 year old daughters, entered a fenced active construction site on Marina Drive in Anna Maria on Thursday evening.

Once inside, Bjurstrom removed rebar and wiring and handed it to his children, who carried the materials to Asman, who loaded them into her vehicle.

Child Protection Services was called to the scene, and took the girls into protective custody, since Bjurstrom had nobody to take of them.
