SARASOTA, Fla. – Tuesday, Suncoast voters will head to the polls to take part in the 2014 primary election. On the ballot will be many important local races, including city and county commission seats, school board members, and Sarasota Memorial Hospital board seats.
Here's a look at some of the key ballot items that you will be asked to decide.
In Manatee County, three school board seats are on the ballot: districts two, four and five.
Voters in District 4 will also decide on a county commissioner; Republicans Robin Disabatino and Tim Norwood are facing off in a universal primary, meaning the winner will not have an opponent in the general election.
In Sarasota County, all voters can cast a ballot for school board members in districts one, four and five.
Republicans will have a say in two county commission primary contests: one for District Two, the other for District Four. And five universal primary contests will decide which candidates take seats on the hospital board.
In the race for Florida Governor, there's a major last minute push to sway voters.
Former governor Charlie Crist, is seeking to reclaim his old job...this time as a Democrat. Monday he's making stops in Jacksonville, Tampa, Orlando, Wellington and Fort Lauderdale.
Crist's underdog opponent, former Senate Democratic leader Nan Rich, is spending time at her South Florida campaign headquarters making get-out-the-vote calls.
Both candidates are trying to unseat Governor Rick Scott, who has two mostly unknown primary challengers of his own.
