(RNN) - The second named storm of the 2017 Atlantic hurricane season has formed off the coast of Trinidad and Tobago. Only a handful of storms have formed in the deep tropics like Bret over the past 100 years.
Tropical Storm Bret has maximum sustained winds of 40 mph.
The storm is located 85 miles southeast of Trinidad in the Atlantic Ocean.
Tropical storm warnings are now up for the southern Windward Islands.
Another tropical cyclone Cindy is forming in the Gulf a little further west of Florida than earlier suggested, which will spare our area from getting slammed by an extreme rainfall event.
A tropical storm warning has also been issued for parts of the Louisiana coast due to potential tropical cyclone #3 that should strengthen and be named Cindy later tonight or Tuesday. It is located in the Gulf of Mexico, about 400 miles south of Louisiana.
The National Hurricane Center forecast has it tracking toward the Gulf Coast in the area of the Louisiana-Texas border.
