SARASOTA COUNTY - Sarasota County Emergency Management has finished its damage assessment from Tropical Storm Andrea and is reporting minor impacts including downed trees, power lines and localized flooding.

A home on Citrus Road was classified as uninhabitable when a large oak tree fell on it resulting in structural damage to the roof and the home's power supply. Minor damage was reported in southern Sarasota County near Venice including downed trees and tree limbs along Citrus Road, Marlin Road, Syracuse Road, Drew Road, Palmetto Road and Flamingo Road. Some property owners also reported damaged fences, roofing shingles that were blown off, and broken windows.

Minor dune erosion of less than 5 feet was documented on south Siesta Key, Casey Key and Manasota Key. Additional erosion took place at restored dunes on Casey Key Road, Manasota Key Road, Garnald Oak Dr., Manasota Key and multiple properties at the north end of Manasota Key. No sea-turtle nests were lost due to the storm.

"This was a small storm that did result in some minor property damage and one home that had a tree fall on it, but thankfully no injuries," said Ed McCrane, Sarasota County Emergency Management Chief. "We had crews staged and ready to respond so we have been able to get it cleaned up pretty quickly."

Emergency Management officials remind residents with special needs including medical and disability to register with the county and public utility companies. "People with special needs who are in our database get the earliest attention when a storm is approaching so it is very important to register," said McCrane.

Registration forms are available on the Sarasota County website,, or by calling the Sarasota County Call Center at 941-861-5000.
