MANATEE COUNTY - Some residents of Myakka City are trying to assess damage to their properties after a strong band of weather swept across the city Thursday morning.
As the storm moved through Myakka City, residents there say it all happened so fast they had no warning. Homeowner Rod Green says he was awoke by the pounding rain, and before he knew what happened, his home had been damaged, trees knocked over and power lines came down.
Green suffered roof damage, as well as a studio in his back yard was torn apart. Luckily no one was hurt.
The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the 36000 Block of SR 70 East regarding a highway obstruction. Upon arrival, several hazards were identified to include a shed and debris field covering approx. 150 feet of SR 70 both east and westbound, several downed power lines, and a fire.
Coordinated efforts were undertaken by MCSO, Peace River Electric, Fire Rescue and FDOT began to render the area safe.
The extent of the damage so far is unknown, but it has been reported as only minor property damage and several downed power lines.
