MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. - An ongoing beach renourishment project on Anna Maria Island appears to be driving away some tourists.

The Bradenton Herald reports some businesses say customers are canceling or leaving the island due to the project.

There are concerns the timing of the project during peak tourist season could hurt business, mainly because the project is taking up space on the beach, and noisy equipment is being used at night.

The project is expected to be completed by April 1st.

[wink] Our Northern visitors need to understand that we need to have this work done in preparation for our summer season. We are sorry it's such a problem for them but remember the saying "Please excuse the inconvenience while we make repairs" or something close to that. We are truly sorry for the noise and your inability to stroll the beach. If you want a beach the next time you come to avoid the snow please let them do what needs to be done to preserve our waterfront.
