Tornado damages mobile homes in Palmetto

PALMETTO, Fla. - A line of storms moving through West Manatee County at around 6:25 Tuesday evening produced a waterspout. This waterspout came ashore at around 6:33 p.m. in Palmetto near 10th Street SW and 28th Avenue West.

At the Tropical Isles Mobile Home Park, 18 homes were damaged. Six sustained major damage, twelve suffered only minor damage. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

The Red Cross assisted those in need. Homeowners affected have made arrangements to stay with relatives and friends for the evening.

This is the second waterspout spotted in the Tampa Bay area in just two days.  The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office says deputies saw a waterspout coming ashore Monday evening in Oldsmar.  Authorities say the waterspout caused damage to the shingles of a home, knocked down tree branches and a mailbox.  No injuries were reported.
