Owner of air conditioning company arrested for unlicensed work

55-year-old James Sohol, owner of Air Today in Venice, was arrested by the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office in connection with nearly a dozen cases of Unlicensed Contracting.

Man impersonates officer to try and get discount on donuts

Deputies say 48-year-old Charles "Chuck" Barry went to the drive-thru of a Trinity Dunkin' Donuts last week, and after identifying himself as law enforcement, asked for a discount on his order of donuts.

Man drops cigarette while driving, leads to accident

Florida Highway Patrol says 56-year-old Sean P. Heenehan was driving his 1996 Dodge Ram when he dropped a cigarette on his lap, causing his truck to veer to the left, and onto a grassy median.

Blind N.Y. man allegedly kicked off plane over guide dog; passengers exit in solidarity

The flight was about to take off from Philadelphia heading to Long Island's MacArthur Airport when Albert Rizzi said he was confronted by a flight attendant because his guide dog wouldn't stay under his seat.

FAA: Fla. pilot says passenger fell into ocean

FAA spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen says the call came at 1:30 p.m. Thursday from the pilot of a Piper PA 46 aircraft.

It happened Thursday around 10:30 pm on North Cypress Point Drive.

Girl says man grabbed her as she walked to bus stop

According to the sheriff's office, the girl was walking in the 5900 block of 5th Street East on her way to the bus stop Wednesday morning. That's when she says an older male in a white van pulled over and approached her around 7:25am.

Tractor stolen from Hillsborough County, found in Sarasota man's backyard

On Wednesday night, deputies received an alert ping from Lojack indicating a stolen tractor was in the area of 16051 Whidden Road in Sarasota. Deputies talked with the home owner, James Trippe, who at first claimed he didn't have the tractor.
