Three charged in Sarasota home burglary Monday

SARASOTA, Fla. -- The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office has arrested three people in connection with a residential burglary Monday while a teenage girl was inside the home.

According to the sheriff's office, the girl was on the phone with her mother shortly after noon when she heard someone trying to break into the home on Spainwood Drive in the Colonial Gables community.

The mother told the girl to run out of the back door while she called 911.

When deputies arrived they saw the suspects leaving the scene. Two fled on foot and a third drove off in a silver pickup truck. The driver was captured after a brief pursuit. Deputies set up a perimeter around the neighborhood and located the other two suspects after a resident reported seeing two people jump over her fence.

All three suspects -- two 16-year-old males from Sarasota, and 25-year-old Jessina Butler of Bradenton -- are charged with Burglary of an Occupied Dwelling.  One of the teens is also facing traffic-related charges for fleeing from deputies.

All three suspects have prior arrests.
