SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla.-The Women's Resource Center, here in Sarasota County, welcomes a new executive director.

Last year alone, the Resource Center helped nearly 13,000 women change their lifestyles and empowered them to find jobs.

“I like to say life happens. And when life happens, or life throws a curve ball, we're here to support you through that and help you move forward towards life's success,” said Valerie Goddard.

We spoke with Valerie Goddard, the new the executive director of The Women's Resource Center, and she shared with us her passion for empowering and equipping women with the tools they need for success.

“I see my role as building upon the strong foundation and the legacy that has already been established here at The Women's Resource Center,” said Goddard.

The non-profit organization has been changing lives in the community for over 30 years. They provide everything from counseling to personal life and job skills programs.

Goddard says, “When women help women, great things happen. We're powerful and when we come together, we can overcome just about any challenge that there is.”

Michele Penn went through the center's Challenge Program back in 2008, and told us how her life was forever changed.

“I was lost, I had no self-esteem, I had blamed myself and was guilty for the kids and I needed something,” said Penn.

Penn came out of a verbally abusive marriage of fourteen years when she found her way to The Women's Resource Center. She told us, they taught her how to believe in herself again.

“I didn't think I could do it. Well it turns out, we can,” said Penn.

Penn now has a series of Affirmation DVD's, sells her own line of furniture, and her photography is featured in Eckhart Tolle's New York Time's bestseller.

Women, like Michele Penn, inspire Goddard and the Women's Resource Center to welcome women of every demographic and partner for success.

“Volunteers are really essential to the work that we do here at The Women's Resource Center. They're on the front line everyday interacting with the women who come through our doors,” said Goddard.
