SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. -- In order to eventually have a flowing diverging diamond pattern, we have to go through mini-projects first.
A steel structure sitting on the interstate is going to be rolled between the interstate overpasses while you sleep. University Parkway will be closed from 11pm Tuesday to 5am Wednesday morning.
"The bulldozer will push it across on rollers and it will sit right between the existing overpasses. It's basically a steel girder erector set and we'll use it for the detour as we bypass the traffic on I-75 during the construction of the overpasses," said Marlena Gore, Interstate Construction Project Manager for the Florida Department of Transportation.
Gore says this temprary bridge is called an Acrow, which is a brand name like Kleenex or Jell-O. It is used around the globe, but this will be the widest ever used in this country at 42 feet wide.
It's a nearly $2 million dollar part of a $74 million dollar project. It's scheduled to be complete in August 2017.
