SWAT situation closes roads and leads to arrest

SARASOTA - Sarasota Police have reopened 17th Street after a suspect in a sex offense was arrested Monday morning.

According to Sarasota Police, a call came in just before 4 am about an armed sexual battery.   The victim is an adult female and is reportedly safe.

Police had closed 17th Street from Lime Avenue to U.S. 301 while the suspect was located inside a business in the 2000 block of 17th Street.

SWAT members and police were in contact with the suspect who was arrested without incident just before 8am.

Authorities kept the nearby roads closed until noon while officers waited for a search warrant.

The suspect's name has not been released, but they are facing possible charges.
