SARASOTA, Fla. – Detectives with the Sarasota Police Department are looking for a man who is accused of beating another man and stealing his money.

The man in question was seen on camera walking into a convenience store with the victim in Sarasota.

On March 25, 2014, the victim told detectives he met a man in downtown Sarasota. The two men walked together towards the BP station on Ringling Boulevard off Lime Avenue.  The clerk told detectives the two men entered the store, appeared to be intoxicated and inquired as to whether the store carried ‘spice’ (also known as synthetic marijuana) to which the clerk told the two men no. The clerk told detectives the men made a purchase and left the store.

The victim told detectives when he and the suspect left the store, they walked towards the train tracks. As some point, the victim was struck from behind several times with a stick or a piece of wood. The victim told detectives he turned to attempt to defend himself and was hit several more times in the hands. The victim told detectives the suspect pulled out a small folding knife, showed the blade and demanded the victim’s money. The suspect left the area on foot and headed towards downtown Sarasota.
