SARASOTA - Heavy rain and gusty winds made their way throughout the Suncoast and across the state Thursday, courtesy of Tropical storm Andrea. The storms managed to leave a lasting impact on certain areas of the Suncoast.

The tropical storm, which moved through the area near high tide, flooded streets and docks, and gusty winds sent trees and branches crashing to the ground -- and in some cases, on roofs.

“I saw the wind kick up through the window, and then I heard a big bang, like a huge clap of thunder. I didn't know what it was,” said Gulf Gate resident Kevin Thompson.

In Sarasota's Gulf Gate neighborhood, water overflowed from a pond on to a residential road. “It just got very windy and very rainy; sideways rain, and it all of a sudden it was just like a downburst. It was just horrific. At that point I ran into the closet thinking I need to take shelter,” said resident Marianne Brady.

In Eastern Manatee County, a tornado formed in Myakka City, ripping apart structures and power lines. “I looked outside, it was raining so hard. I just heard everything. It was very loud, very strong. It sounded fierce. You hope for the best,” said Rod Green.

In coastal Manatee County, the waves picked up, and salt water spalshed in to people's back yards in the Palma Sola community.

And on Anna Maria Island, motorists drove through flooded roadways, as boats got a good washing.

Residents in South Venice also got a scare, as a possible tornado made its way through the area near Syracuse Road, causing some minor home damage.

Fortunately, there no other major damage to our area from Andrea. And so far, no reports of any injuries.
