SARASOTA, Fla. -- Every year people are taken to hospital emergency rooms in the United States because of injuries from fireworks, and local officials are reminding residents that most personal fireworks are illegal.

In the Florida, consumer use of fireworks by the public is illegal. Examples of fireworks that would be considered illegal include firecrackers, torpedoes, skyrockets and roman candles.

Sarasota County Fire Department advises community members to celebrate by attending public fireworks displays, saying that these displays are bigger and brighter, and legal.

ABC 7's Todd Dunn will have a closer look at fireworks laws tonight on ABC 7 News.
