Suncoast man gets life in prison for sexual battery on a child

SARASOTA, FL. - A Suncoast man will spend the rest of his life in jail after being convicted of sexual battery on a 9-year-old girl.

Detectives with the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit arrested 24-year-old Jeffry Hagen in March of 2011 after a 9-year-old girl reported he had sexually abused her for several months.

Hagen confessed to the crime at the time of his arrest.

Assistant State Attorney Andrea McHugh prosecuted the case. On Thursday, the jury convicted Hagen of 6 counts of Sexual Battery on a Child.

According to the State Attorney’s Office, Hagen will receive a mandatory life sentence in prison without parole.
