LAKEWOOD RANCH - The ancient Mayan calendar speaks of 12-12-2012 as the end of times as we know it, and the beginning of a new cycle of evolution for planet earth.
For one Lakewood Ranch 6th grader, today marked something more special.
Kinsui Newhams turned 12 Wednesday at Out-of-Door Academy at Lakewood Ranch. The birthday girl was given a special celebration since her birthday falls on such an unusual date.
Her parents tell us her family has been making a big deal about this unusual birthday.
Kinsui says she likes having a birthday on such a noted date and enjoys all the attention she's getting. “Being surrounded by the people I love my friends and family and everyone saying happy birthday so many times. It’s a lot of fun to know people really care."
Her parents say they plan to take her out to dinner and they bought her tickets to a Cirque Du Soleil in St. Petersburg.
