Florida's unemployment rate is at its lowest, since 2008, and is below the national average, at 6.4%, with Sarasota County at 6.1% and Manatee County at 6.2%. The economy is rising on the Suncoast. And as we quickly approach 2014, experts say there is hope for an increase in job creation.

With the success of businesses like Tervis tumbler and PGT Industries, organizations, like Suncoast Workforce and EDC of Sarasota County, are working together to seek out companies and create more jobs in Sarasota and Manatee County.

Suncoast Workforce says it's never been a better time for companies start and grow on the Suncoast.

“It's never been stronger than it is today because we're able to leverage our resources, able to leverage our funds. We're able to communicate across lines to make sure that we're operating effectively and efficiently to provide the best services to businesses here in the community,” says Sally Hill, Communications Director with Suncoast Workforce.

Suncoast Workforce works closely with the Economic Development Corp. of Sarasota County who is doing their part to bring in companies and create jobs. They have put together a 2014 campaign advertising the Suncoast as not only a beautiful place to vacation, but a great location to start and grow a business.

“Their message is, 'we can run our business in paradise and you can too.' And we are hoping that that will generate more activity and business opportunities for our community,” says Mark Huey, CEO of Sarasota County's EDC.

Suncoast Workforce and EDC say the Suncoast is ready for economic growth, and are hopeful as they see the rise of young technology firms, retail stores, and start-ups.

“We all are working together towards the same goal, and that's to help grow this economy,” says Hill.

EDC says the Suncoast's economy will also rise due to the increase in hotel construction, as well as the new Mall at University Town Center slated to open in the new year.
