Successful spring so far for Suncoast teams

SARASOTA, Fla. - The Rays had an off day Monday, and the rain gave the Pirates and the Orioles the day off, but so far this has been a banner spring for the Suncoast.

The Rays have the best record in the Grapefruit League at 11-4, so fans have gotten to see wins. “It definitely feels good to feel this good at this point in Spring Training, but we are still however many days away from Opening Day, and that is when it really matters," says Rays pitcher David Price.

As far as the Pirates, they went from prepping the field for the Yankees on Monday to covering it back up due to the rain. But they are 10-8 in Spring Training, so they have carried that winning attitude from the playoffs last season. And, where it was once the other way around, now the Steelers and their head coach Mike Tomlin want to get a feel for the winning attitude. "It’s humbling, really, to be honest with you. I appreciate Clint (Hurdle) giving me that chance to stand before them. Just to come and share what they are going through right now is something I don't take for granted. It is an honor to be here," said Tomlin.

Last, but not least, the Orioles are 10-6 on the spring, and they have made big noise with late signings of big name players like Ubaldo Jimenez, Johan Santana, and Nelson Cruz.

That makes it 31 wins for Suncoast teams to this point in the spring, which is great for fans. Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing.
