I was personally involved in trying to stop USF from building their Sarasota-Manatee campus in that location on that particularly dangerous stretch of US41. At the time, USF had the opportunity to build their campus in Lakewood Ranch (they were offered FREE land ) where accessibility would have been so much safer and easier. Yet USF insisted that their present location was a better one even when they were made completely aware of the traffic problems that existed then and were to get much worse with the addition of their campus. Yet, they still chose to build there mostly because of appearances, status and vanity of having a campus "on the water". It's just such a shame that people have to lose their lives because of their inexcusably poor planning. Way to go USF!
