HARDEE COUNTY, FL. - A semi-truck driver is charged after his vehicle runs into the back of a school bus picking up students.

It happened Monday around 7:15am at the intersection of SR 66 and Sunset Drive.

43-year-old Pierre Nicolson was driving a semi-truck gasoline tanker eastbound on State Road 66 approaching the intersection of Sunset Drive.

35-year-old Octavia Caldwell was driving a school bus and stopped on S.R. 66 at the intersection of Sunset Drive with its warning lights activated and picking up students.

Nicolson failed to see the school bus while it was stopped and ran into the back of the bus with the semi-truck. The impact caused the bus to overturn onto its left side.

Nicolson said the glare from the rising sun caused him to not see the bus.

The crash sent both drivers and a 15-year-old male student to the hospital with minor injuries. Eight students were on the bus at the time of the crash.

Nicolson was charged with Failure to Stop for a School Bus.
