Strong storms blow through parts of Suncoast

Sarasota, Fla. - With plenty of tropical moisture in place from a tropical wave, and temperatures soaring into the low 90s today, we saw a line of thunderstorms develop and roll through SW Florida this afternoon. One of the cells produced some strong winds and caused some damage to a car port in N. Sarasota.

At around 5:30 this afternoon an advisory was put out by the National Weather Service that we may see some wind gusts reach up to 50 mph with these storms.

It appears that just what happened in N. Sarasota. Several calls came in to the ABC 7 News desk shortly after that advisory was issued, from folks living on North Tuttle. It appears that a car port attached to a manufactured home was ripped off by the strong straight line winds at the Winds of St. Armand manufactured home park.

There have been no other reports of damage near that area. More storms will develop overnight as a cold front approaches.
