SARASOTA--They may not know his name or many other details about him, but police are looking for a brazen criminal with a history of attacking young women in the area south of the Ringling Art Museum. That includes his latest victim, a New College student who lives off campus.
"It's hard to see people you consider friends go through something like this," said Allegra Buyer, who attends New College and also happens to know the latest victim.
According to police, the suspect entered the victim's home and assaulted her while she was asleep in her bed. The victim screamed and the suspect took off through the back door.
Buyer, who also lives off-campus, says knowing this man is out there makes getting some shut-eye a challenge.
"It's hardest when you're alone in the house at night," said Buyer. "That's when it's just pretty impossible to even sleep."
Other students like Emily Eilbert say the recent attacks have made them more cautious.
"It is distressing and [it] makes me nervous," said Eilbert.
"I guess i sleep with my blinds closed," said Eilbert. "I like to run a lot and so I don't run at night."
Police say the suspect is between 19 and 26 years old and between 5'10'' and 6 feet tall. Police also believe the suspect is entering homes through sliding glass doors.
