SIESTA KEY, Fla. -- Drivers will now need to go a little slower along a stretch of Midnight Pass Road on Siesta Key.

According to published reports, the Sarasota County commission lowered the speed limit from 40 to 35 miles per hour on a half-mile long section of Midnight Pass Road south of Stickney Point Road – Vista Hermosa Circle to Sanderling Road.

Commissioners say they made the change because several people living in the area are worried about people driving too quickly near bicycle riders and pedestrians.

However, a request to allow low-speed vehicles on that same stretch of Midnight Pass Road was rejected by the commission.
