SARASOTA, Fla. -- Sarasota Police Chief Bernadette DiPino has withdrawn the agency's application for accreditation renewal.

The department was accredited by the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation, and scheduled for renewal in February 2015.

Chief DiPino voluntarily withdrew the application, citing several policy reviews and updates that did not occur in a timely fashion dating as far back as 2012.  SPD plans to review the polices and standards included in the accreditation process as it submits a new application.

SPD says the withdrawal does not change the way the agency functions- accreditation is just voluntary, and not mandatory.

ABC 7's Bobeth Yates will have more on this story tonight on ABC 7 News.
