SARASOTA, Fla. - Children on the Suncoast can now experience a tropical rain forest right here at home. Selby Gardens is showing off its newest exhibit, the Ann Goldstein Children's Rainforest Garden.
The latest addition to the Sarasota bayfront botanical gardens features a rock-faced waterfall, caves, and a suspended rope bridge, all to give visitors an experience of what it's like to visit a rainforest.
"The rainforest is an endangered habitat, and Selby Gardens has been doing research in tropical rainforests for over four decades now. So this is a way for us to help teach new generations about why it's important to protect our habitats," says Grace Carlson of Selby Gardens.
The new rainforest garden will open to the public this weekend. A dedication ceremony is set for Saturday morning with a public celebration set from 1pm to 3pm.
