WESLEY CHAPEL, FL. - Authorities say a man has been arrested on suspicion of shooting two people - one fatally - after an argument over cell phone use at a Florida theater.

It happened Monday around 1:30 p.m. at the Cobbe Movie Theater in Wesley Chapel.

The suspect, Curtis Reeves a retired Tampa Police Department officer, was sitting inside the theater with his wife to see the film Lone Survivor. Sitting in front of him was another couple Chad Oulson and his wife Nichole Oulson.

Detectives say Chad Oulson was using his cell phone during the previews before the film started and Mr. Reeves asked him to stop several times. At one point, Mr. Reeves got up and left the theater and returned to his seat. Mr. Oulson asked him if he reported him for using his phone to theater management.

A verbal altercation ensued and Mr. Reeves pulled out a handgun shooting Chad Oulson in the chest. His wife Nichole placed her hand over her husband receiving an injury to her hand from the same shot. Mr. Oulson later died as a result of his injury.

Inside the theater, an off-duty Sumter County deputy detained Mr. Reeves until our deputies arrived while two off-duty nurses tried to render aid to the victim. The theater had an estimated 25 people inside at the time of the shooting.

Reeves is being charged with second degree homicide and will soon be booked into the Land O Lakes detention center.

Mr. Reeves was clearly in the wrong place at the wrong time. He was supposed to be in a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado in July of 2012 to stop James Holmes. More guns in the hands of more people will make a safer society and you will not convince me otherwise... I will not let your pesky facts get in the way of my beliefs.

I can't believe such a silly altercation would turn lethal. This theater is right down the street from my house.
