SARASOTA - A section of U.S. 41 was shut down while crews worked to repair a busted gas line.

It happened just before 9pm Wednesday along U.S. 41 near the intersection with Bay Road/Bee Ridge Road, where crews are currently installing three red light cameras.

A construction worker reportedly hit a 2-inch gas line and ruptured it. Firefighters immediately evacuated people from the Paradise Plaza shopping center there and shut down nearby roads.

At last check first responders had the leak contained but were still working.
