BRADENTON, Fla. -- A deputy-involved shooting took place in Bradenton Thursday morning during a domestic situation, leaving one man dead.

It happened around 9:30am in the 3500 block of 58th Avenue East.

According to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office, one of the persons involved in the domestic situation was fatally shot by a deputy.

Deputies tell ABC 7 that the 31-year-old suspect had an altercation with his mother at an area convenience store in which the suspect held her against her will and battered her.  The mother managed to escape and call authorities, who responded to the suspect's home on 58th Avenue East.

While deputies were outside the home, the suspect came out of the house with a Samurai sword and charged a deputy, who shot and killed the man.

The deputy was not injured.

The suspect has been identified as 31-year-old Terry Sellars, Jr.  According to the sheriff's office, he has previous 17 arrests to his name, and was released by the Department of Corrections this past April.
