MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. - One day after getting convicted of murdering his wife, Thomas Fleming reportedly attempted suicide in the jail.

According to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office, Fleming jumped from the 2nd tier of the jail onto the 1st floor shortly after 8am Thursday, a distance of about 15 feet.

He was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Detectives are investigating the incident as an attempted suicide.

Fleming, a former Bradenton Police Captain, was found guilty Wednesday of killing his wife in 2012.  He told jurors that he originally planned to kill himself.

He is facing up to 25 years in prison for 2nd Degree Murder.
