SARASOTA - A Sarasota man was seriously injured Wednesday afternoon after troopers say a car pulled out in front of him.

It happened at 1:27pm on Stickney Point Road just east of U.S. 41.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, 66-year-old Robert Nippes was headed westbound on Stickney Point when a car driven by 71-year-old Dee Lee of Oregon pulled out from Couver Drive, turning left into oncoming traffic on Stickney Point.

Nippes' scooter hit the front left side of the car, and Nippes was thrown onto the road.

He was wearing a helmet, but still suffered serious injuries and was taken to Bayfront Medical Center for treatment.

Lee was charged with Violation of Right of Way.
