SARASOTA COUNTY - Sarasota County is actively seeking customer feedback while exploring whether a merger of Sarasota County Area Transit and Manatee County Area Transit would result in a larger and more efficient regional transit system for riders.

The SCAT customer survey is available through the county website, www.scgov.net, and on SCAT buses. Customers can also call the Sarasota Call Center at 941-861-5000 and take the survey by phone.

"The survey should take about a one minute to complete and will add the voice of our customers to ongoing conversation about a possible merger," said Glama Carter, Sarasota County Area Transit director.

The survey has six questions plus a comment section for community members and is available in Spanish. The survey will be online for three weeks. The results will be used by SCAT and the Sarasota County Commission in consideration of a possible merger with MCAT.

As the county researches the possible merger, community members will be able to offer input at public meetings. Those meetings will be advertised and posted on the county website.

"There are several steps in the process of the potential merger," said Carter. "The entire process could take from 10 months to two years."

The community will be kept informed about the possibility of a merger between SCAT and MCAT through meetings, social media, local news outlets; and residents can also call the Sarasota Call Center for updates about the process.
