SARASOTA, Fla. – Thousands of revelers rung in 2014 in downtown Sarasota at the big New Year’s Eve celebration featuring its annual dropping of the pineapple.

You might call it the Suncoast’s version of the New York City ball drop.

The big event offered rides, food, and plenty of fun along Main Street and Lemon Avenue.

Of course ABC 7’s own Bob Harrigan was on hand to report live on the news and host the online live stream of the pineapple drop on

Downtown Bradenton held their New Year’s Eve celebration on Old Main Street with live music and vendors to help ring in the new year.

12th Street West between Manatee Avenue and 3rd Avenue was closed Tuesday afternoon at 2:30pm and remained closed until after the night’s celebration.

The Lauren Mitchell Band was the headliner. There was food and drink vendors, lots of live music and entertainment. And the ball dropped to welcome 2014 at the stroke of midnight.

Thousands of people eating, drinking, and having fun but who would have thought one of them may end up needing to use a bathroom at some point in the middle of the night? Great planning on the 0 port-a-lets or public restrooms event "planners".
