SARASOTA - Special Olympians have returned to the Suncoast state champions.

This past weekend the Special Olympics state aquatics meet was held in Sebastian. Hundreds of athletes from all over Florida participated, including about a dozen from Sarasota County.

Athletes from the City of Sarasota team racked up several medals and took the gold in the 4x25 freestyle relay. They have been practicing twice a week since June and have competed in two previous meets this season.

As one of the coaches of the team, ABC 7’s Hayley Wielgus had the opportunity to travel to the state meet this weekend and cheer on the swimmers.

Congratulations to them all!
