SARASOTA, Fla. -- Two recent high school graduates from Sarasota will compete Thursday at the Under-23 World Rowing Championships in Italy.

Teenagers Devin Norder and Shawna Sims shocked everyone when they qualified to join the national team by beating out more seasoned competitors.

In the past, the girls have been unable to compete internationally because of financial reasons.

The duo says they hope to move forward in their rowing career and eventually be able to compete at the World Rowing Championships that will be held in Sarasota in 2017.

We wish them the best of luck!
