Sarasota prepares for Zimmerman verdict

SARASOTA, Fla., - City leaders gathered Thursday at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park to encourage a civil and peaceful response to the verdict in the George Zimmerman murder trial.

As the court prepares for closing arguments, Chief of Police Bernadete DiPino stood alongside NAACP Sarasota County Branch President Trevor Harvey, City Manager Tom Barwin, Vice Mayor Willie Shaw and other community leaders urging city residents to stay calm.

As the jury prepares to hear closing arguments in the high profile murder trial, communities around the state are doing the same.
