SARASOTA - The Sarasota Police Department and the City of Sarasota are grateful for the contributions made by the 73 Citizen Volunteers.

In the past 12 months the volunteers have donated 13,638 hours of unpaid service to the City of Sarasota.

Officer Danny Robbins is the Volunteer Coordinator. He receives valuable assistance from volunteer Carolyn Fishel the Citizen Volunteer Coordinator. Carolyn Fishel, Ron Bledsoe, Martha Bohn, and Don Herklotz each volunteered more than 1,000 hours during this year.

The volunteers were recognized at an Awards Dinner attended by City Manager Thomas Barwin, Deputy City Manager Marlon Brown, Vice Mayor Shaw, Commissioner Caragiulo, Acting Chief Sutton, Incoming Chief DiPino, Captain Bonner, and Captain Karr.

Volunteer, Julie Clarke coordinated the dinner. The food for the dinner was donated by the volunteers.

The 2012 Sarasota Police Department’s Citizen Volunteer Awards included: Volunteer of the Year, Tom Solomon; Outstanding Volunteers – Ron Bledsoe, Charlie Mericle, Sandy Savage, and Leon Warshaw; and Brachle Award – A.P. Raghavendra.

The Brachle Award is to honor dedicated service under difficult circumstances. The Brachle Award is named for the first award recipient (2001), Bob Brachle. Bob Brachle was a volunteer who continued to serve after a double amputation and while in a wheel chair. Brachle served as a volunteer for the Sarasota Police Department until his death.

Congratulations to all of our award winners. We appreciate the contributions made by all the volunteers.
