Sarasota Police: Dozens arrested in cocaine cartel investigation

SARASOTA, Fla. -- Phase II of an operation targeting drug dealers in the Sarasota area has led to the arrest of 24 people, police say.

According to the Sarasota Police Department, Operation Sarasota Cartel II, Phase II wrapped up last month.  It was a joint investigation with the DEA and the State Attorney's Office.

Overall, since the operation began in January 2012, 33 arrests have been made, including 5 people that were federally indicted by the DEA.  14 kilos of cocaine have been recovered, with a street value of over $500,000; and 5 vehicle have been seized.

More details on the arrests will be announced Friday.
